The Blueprints For An Emergent Personality project got off to an excellent start this April with Theo visiting the team of AMORE (A distributional MOdel of Reference to Entities) at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.
The AMORE team is developing a model of linguistic reference implemented as a computational system that can learn its own representations from data. To complement this, the Blueprints project explores the role of personality in the linguistic learning process and the development of a model.
The Blueprints project will approach the AMORE computational system as an infant consciousness developing its cognitive abilities – inferring the body (or the embodiment), which emerges from the way the model-as-a-mind displays idiosyncrasies akin to a personality.
The initial stage engages with the AMORE project’s physical surroundings, from the micro to the macro, including: its program language, its technological/material encasement, the immediate environment of lab, the researchers, the building, and the extended environment of the city.
Theo sketched portraits and depictions of these elements – a graphic witness to the factors surrounding and thus embodying, in some respects, this new being.
